What We Do

We’re a 24/7 AM FM radio station that provides a platform for over 50 shows and hosts representing the Kingston community, in service to the community. We provide technical audio and visual support for other local Non-profit and government organizations to help them expand their reach, vision, and message. 

Who You Are

Radio Kingston is seeking an experienced Financial Director to facilitate all aspects of current financial workflows and develop innovative solutions to meet the needs of a diverse and emerging organization. 

The Financial Director will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization, reporting on revenue, managing external accounting contractors, budgeting, disbursing funds, managing risk, implementing financial policies, accounting functions, and improving financial processes. They will be a detail oriented professional ready to create and manage financial systems and workflow, supervise external accounting and bookkeeping professionals, provide guidance to colleagues on budget planning and tracking, work closely with auditors, and present financial information to the Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Director will collaborate with the existing leadership team (Executive, Operations, and Technical Directors) to both expand and contain the mission, vision, and goals of the organization. The Financial Director will execute their job function autonomously but will be supported by an external accounting team.

This is a new position and its functions are expected to evolve over time. Below is a summary of anticipated responsibilities as they are currently known. 

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and Implement Financial Strategic Planning Initiatives
  • Perform Regular Financial Analysis
    • Prepare detailed reports on Org’s financial performance (Quarterly and Annually)
  • Collaborate with Department Heads on Creation of Annual Operating Budget
    • Recognize patterns of expenditures and create financial forecasts / reforecasts
  • Ensure compliance with Current Financial Laws and Guidelines
    • Facilitate and Supervise Yearly Audit
    • Facilitate Yearly Tax Filing
    • Unemployment Insurance / DOL Compliance
    • Char 500 (Annual filing for exempt status)
  • Develop Compensation Policy w Members of Leadership Team
  • Facilitate Financial Operations of Sponsored Initiatives, including Kingston Community Internet and the Kingston Emergency Food Collaborative
  • Facilitate and oversee all Financial Operations of RK Community Fund
  • Oversee and Facilitate all Aspects of Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • Facilitate Risk Management, including audit and renewal of various insurance policies

Internal Accounting Processes and Controls

  • Lead annual audit process with independent auditors
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
  • Manage bank relationships
  • Oversee all financial transactions including accts payable, receivable, credit card reconciliations and wire transfers
  • Oversee billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, inventory accounting and expense reimbursement
  • Manage insurance policies and relationships with insurance agents
  • Together with Leadership, oversee financial risk management, including contracts, leases, insurance, and other legal agreements
  • Collaborate with the Operations Director to facilitate employee benefits, and reporting and auditing of same
  • Oversee Payroll
  • Facilitate yearly reconciliation of HRA accounts and rollovers
  • Facilitate and reconcile petty cash

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree; MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • At least 5 years financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting, including budget planning, contracts, audits, tax filings, compliance, and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated ability to build departmental capacity and create efficient systems for a growth-oriented organization; experience implementing technological solutions for financial management, bringing the necessary change management skills
  • High degree of judgment, discretion and confidentiality
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; ability to convey financial information to people with varying levels of financial expertise
  • Meticulously detail oriented; excellent project management and facilitation skills
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and problem solve with people of different backgrounds; high level of social-emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and foster a work environment of mutual respect and collaboration; commitment to a culture of learning

  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish)

Compensation, Commitment and Culture

The Finance Director is a full-time, executive-level, salaried position with an expected commitment of 40 hours per week. This position offers a competitive salary and generous benefits package.
